Tool Time
You know those little plastic straws that come Scotch-taped on a lot of aerosol cans? They have legs. I swear they do. They must, because just about every time I need one, I find that it has vaulted from the can and run off to some secret hiding place, never again to be seen.
A company called Hold-It (www.hold-it.net) has come up with a wonderfully simple way of preventing those little rascals from carrying out their mysterious disappearance. The product has the same name as the company, Hold-It, and it's a rubber ring with a 3-inch-long rubber arm projecting from it; at the end of the arm is a little round ball with a tiny hold in the middle. You slip the ring around an aerosol can, poke the straw through the hole at the end of the arm and insert one end of the straw into the spray nozzle. The ring and its arm then hold the straw in place whether or not the can is in use. If you want to spray the can's contents with the nozzle alone, pull the straw out of the nozzle and tuck it under the rubber ring, leaving it pushed through the end of the arm. So, unless you lose the entire can - or one of your friends gets jealous and steals the Hold-It - lost spray-can straws should be a thing of the past.
I've been utilizing Hold-Its with a race team that has a half-dozen crew members who constantly use numerous aerosol spray lubes and cleaners at the track and the race shop, and we haven't lost a straw yet. Hold-Its come in a package of 2 for $1 and are available at most popular auto-parts stores.. |

No
lost straws, ever
It's a little thing,
but it drives me nuts. I buy an aerosol can of silicone, carburetor
cleaner or penetrating oil, use it once or twice, and the next time
I need it, I can't find the straw that focuses the stream. It's
gone, somewhere in the Black Hole of Lost Stuff. But the Black Hole
isn't getting any more of my straws, because I've found Hold-Its
($5 for 12). This is a cool little problem solver that lets you
put a leash on those straws so they can't ever run off again.
It couldn't be simpler.
There's a big loop that stretches around the top of the can. At
the end of the leash is a rubber ball with a straw-size hole in
it. Hold-Its are durable enough to be used over and over. Get'em
straight from the manufacturer.

WD-40 Straw Holder
READ MORE:
Gadgets,
home, lubricant Before you start thinking of me as the dude that
only writes about things that are pretty, and only marginally useful
(like chairs and juicers), I want you to consider this fugly little
thing. See now, function sometimes counts for something in my world,
even if in the end, form suffers a little.
The “Hold-It” straw holder,
from Texan company Hold-It Inc., has got to be the most practical
invention since… well, since the shoe at least. If you’ve ever used
a can of WD-40, you’ll understand why. The little red straw that
comes with the lubricant is infamous in its ability to vanish after
one or two uses. No one really knows where they go. I, for one,
think hungry little children eat them as candy when you’re not looking.
Whatever the case, the “Hold-It” easily attaches to the can of delightfully
smelling lube and clamps onto the straw, thus preventing its disappearance.
They’re pretty much
giving the things away, too, at $5 for 12. -DP

You
are about to have one of those "DOH!!" moments, mainly because you
didn't think of this.
How many times have you
used a spray can of cleaner or lubricant ranging from WD-40 to brake
cleaner and watched as the red tube made like a rocket, departing
the can for who knows where? Worse, have you ever sprayed lubricant
into an engine cylinder while prepping the engine for an 'off season'
hibernation (snowmobiles, chain saws, leaf blowers, snow blowers,
motorcycles etc) and had the red tube squirt into the cylinder?
Now that is big trouble.
To the rescue, Hold-It,
a simple device that goes around the top of a spray can like a rubber
band and at the other end, a small ball with an even smaller hole
which fits tightly around the red tube.
No more lost tubes, no
more trying to find the red tube when it's flown off the nozzle.
You might be able to
find this product at a local hardware store but order online. Get
the package of a dozen (about $5) and give the extra's to friends.
The shipping is the same for two dozen if you have lots of friends,
family, club members.
Think you don't have
enough spray cans? At left is my little collection of lubricants,
moisture disbursers and cleansers.
This product WORKS!

Here's a
solution to one of life's little headaches
You
know that little straw that comes with aerosol cans of products
such as WD-40? How long does it take before you lose that straw?
One usage, Two perhaps? Or maybe it's gone before you even get to
use it.
IDEAS THAT MAKE SENSE
- Well thanks to a neat and simple product called the HOLD-IT
you will no longer worry about losing that gosh darn aerosol can
straw.
Each HOLD-IT made by
a Houston company called HOLD-IT, Inc. is a one piece component
made up of a stretchable, durable rubber elastic polymer. The flexible
ring portion of the product slips over the aerosol can and that
little straw that comes with the aerosol can fits through the opening
in the small rubber ball located at the other end.
The product is ingenious
- so much so that HOLD-IT Inc. recently sold 2.5 million units to
WD-40 for one of that company's promotions.
Now only if HOLD-IT Inc.
can find a solution to those socks that get lost in the dryer.

I've
used many different types of spray lubricants over the years, some
good, some not so. One problem with all of them is I always lose
the little straw that comes with them. Rubber bands always seem
to dry out. Hold-it's hold the straw to the can. I haven't lost
one yet. Fairly inexpensive as well- $4.99 for twelve. I've given
some to friends, they love them as well. --

Super idea. Had I had
a hold-it on a can of WD-40 awhile back, it would have saved hours
of labor due to dropping a straw down the open port of a marine
engine. Trying to fish it out became a total waste of time and disassembly
of the engine was the only way to finally retrieve the straw. Or,
watch the engine go up in smoke upon starting! A simple Hold-It
would have prevented that incident entirely!
